Expeditieleden Cairngorms 2007The winds have been strong from the South-East and summit temperatures have remained very cold. Snow showers and heavy drifting have led to deep accumulations of soft slab developing on West through North to North-East aspects above 700 metres.  On a North-West aspect at 1050 metres tests showed a very weakly bonded snowpack and spontaneous shooting cracks were also noted. The avalanche hazard is High (Category 4). COMMENT: Maelstrom conditions on the hill today. Continue reading
